Northern concern

What crime the Northern people of Bangladesh have committed? Why are they ill-treated in an independent Bangladesh? Perhaps, they do not have too many powerful ministers in the cabinet! Otherwise, under the same sky of independent Bangladesh, why the people of Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Comilla are living with 'Lehenga' and the people of Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram are living with 'Monga'?

Sorry, readers, I forgot that 'Monga' is gone, now I am talking about the cold wave that is sweeping across the northern part of Bangladesh. It is unbearable for any child, when the temperature is below 6°

Celsius. On the basis of newspaper reports (though the papers are busy with politics not with people who are the victims of this vicious cold wave! ), it can be said that cold waves will continue till February. Without any pretence of modesty, I can say, we need help immediately. But the recent tradition of helping poor people is different. Various organisations show it. Giving a torn cloth to poor people is like a fashion show. Many organisations collect old-clothes and distribute them not to the northern people, but to people in and around Dhaka. They get publicity in return.

That is a sad fact. The people of North Bengal are not thinking that they are outside the constituencies, they are outside Bangladesh.

We may not have lot of ministers , but we are citizens, we are the voters of Bangladesh. So people of Northern Bangladesh will not accept step-motherly behaviour for long.

Our one and only hope is the prime minister. I would request the PM to take notice of the plight of people in Northern Bangladesh, particularly in Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, and Kurigram and take necessary action.

Your sympathetic attention may save us from this unbearable cold wave.
