The pitfalls of excesses
But the general elections ( held under democratic dispensation) were a farce, as the moral values that the voters expected were not reflected in political activities at the field level. The activists indulge in many undesirable practices (grab, control, dictate, usurp, threaten and capture, misuse and mis-influence). These lawbreakers are overlooked or protected by the higher authorities depending on the workers rather than on public support. This has to be changed, before politics can become clean.
Dr B (very experienced) is floating a new political party (as a dissenting group) he needs no tutorial on politics. The credibility of leadership in Bangladesh is at stake. It needs a lot of moral courage, sacrifice and suffering to pull out the weeds, and separate the grain from the chaff. There are too many dishonest people in politics. The politicians know it, but won't comment publicly. Here the backdoors are wider and crowded, and the front doors are shut most of the time.
Thus the rot starts from the top, as the "tolerance" factor has two opposite sides: too much liberty to party workers, and absolute intolerance of critics (political or otherwise). You can't have the cake and eat it too!.
Under these working conditions, self-cleansing (by the politicians) is not possible. Non-political pressures are needed to stop misuse of power and influence. Negative politics is now embedded in institutionalised form, hence chasing the individuals won't clean the complex system. It is something like mosquito and environment controlthe whole (new) environment should discourage unethical practices. There is a snag: the have-nots cannot rule. Thus another vicious circle is discernible.
Well, what is the way out?
