The students of National University are the victims of a diabolical situation. They are enormously trouble-ridden. Especially the students of English have to face great difficulties. The four-year course has a vast syllabus but we do not get sufficient materials to prepare ourselves. Even the teachers' proficiency on the subjects to be studied is questionable. They admit their inefficiency citing that they are not able to comply with the prescribed syllabus. The syllabus of the second year especially "Advance reading and writing" was entirely puzzling which baffled the students because no teachers, not even the syllabus-makers, will probably be able to solve the sample questions. Somehow, one year has already gone and some teachers have obtained hazy knowledge of the subject by virtue of which they teach the students, publishing some misleading advertisements. That is not my point. I want to say that those who appeared in the second year exams and are preparing for the third year-course are the worst sufferers. Still today they have not got the books or even the sample questions. Time is ticking away. The university authorities are silent on the issue. So the students are in serious trouble. They do not really know what to do now. Just one month before the final exams, one publisher has provided some books which contain questions and notes which are of no use at the honours level.
So, I urge the authorities concerned to provide the necessary books immediately to the students and minimise their predicament.
