Points to ponder
We have observed our independence day this year like previous years. The day is very significant to the people of Bangladesh. On this day the late president Ziaur Rahman announced independence on behalf of Bangabandhu. So people of all strata of life came out to join the Liberation War. About 30 lakh people including women, children, teachers and intellectuals were massacred during the nine month long war. But if we analyse the matter deeply, we see that we have achieved nothing from our Liberation War. Most of the people of our country are living below poverty line. As a result, many guardians can't send their children to school. People cannot enjoy their basic rights. On the other hand, the law and order situation has gone out of control. The country is grappling with terrorism.
Again unemployment, which is a great problem, stands in the way of development. So have we gained real freedom? It we want to enjoy our freedom , we have to root out this problem from society by making concerted efforts.
