Political cricket!

When the police, who overwhelmingly outnumbered the AL activists, repressed them during the siege to the Hawa Bhaban, the leaders of the BNP Young Turks were seen playing cricket.

All the leading English dailies covered the cricket match, as if it were an international match; some went to the extent of giving the score card and other minute details. It was presented with the same importance as the news coverage of the police action on the opposition activists. English dailies are regarded as less biased than their Bangla counterparts. But it was really amusing the way some English dailies covered it, giving it even more importance than the police oppression story and highlighting match details, rather than its political significance.

English dailies have set an example of balanced news coverage. They should not deviate from it.
