I read with interest Dr. M. Ataur Rahman's article "political intolerance: How can we overcome? "( DS, July 19). Here the writer tries to identify the importance of political tolerance and find out the roots of intolerance. In our country, no political party obeys the principles of democracy in a peaceful way. For this reason we can't overcome political intolerance. Lack of understanding and mutual respect is one of the vital causes of political intolerance. The conflicts between the two main political parties are responsible for social decay and reversal of democracy. During the past thirty-three years, we have not been able to establish a good government due to lack of tolerance to others' rights and views. And we know that the competition for grabbing power, personal attacks in provocative and objectionable language and the inability to see anything beyond self-interest are the causes behind our sufferings.

The writer suggests a measure to eliminate political intolerance which we must follow for the sake of the country.
