Post-hartal question

I wish to congratulate you for the excellent commentary published on April 9. Your observation of the single-mindedness of the leader of the Opposition could not be better described. Yes, she is determined to "harass this government and remove it from power". However I am somewhat confused when you talk of her breaking promise /commitment of not calling for hartals. Have our politicians ever kept their promises to the people? I must say you are too optimistic an individual. You have referred to the Awami League as the oldest political party at the very grassroots levels. I used to think the same way but not any longer, Yes, the Awami league does have more experience in hauling up picketers and rowdy elements of the society capable of creating chaos, confusion and vandalism on the streets. I have said this before also, anarchy cannot pass forAndolon, a mass upsurge or a protest demonstration.

Your claim of the print media doing a good job of projecting to the people the failures of the current regime holds good. May I also take this opportunity of pointing out that it is this very print media, which had given considerable direct and indirect support to "nearly all actions of the Awami League" and continue to do so. The Daily Star , to my mind , is (perhaps) a rare exception. Sheikh Hasina is also the product of the media as far as her single-mindedness is concerned.

Modern day politics is a game of consolidation and not isolation, addition, and not subtraction.

In all honesty, I have lost faith in both the parties. All that is left now is frustration and hopelessness.
