Primary school teachers

We are concerned about the primary school teachers' tough programmes organised by their association at the Central Shaheed Minar. They arranged a rally & meeting. Thousands of govt. primary school teachers from different parts of the country gathered there. The schools are closed now due to strike & they warned that they would go for very tough measures.

The issue is their poor salary. They are not well paid while the government high school teachers are much better paid. According to statistics, a govt. primary teacher is paid only Tk 2,600 per month while a govt. high school teacher is paid Tk 5,100/month. At the same time, a govt. primary school headmaster is paid only Tk.2,850 while a govt. high school headmaster is paid Tk.9,000/month. That is more than three times! Though it is difficult to believe but it is true. This is really inhumane & irrational. The govt. assured the teachers of better pay but that has not been translated into action so far. The huge salary discrimination, disparity, whatever we call it, cannot be logical or acceptable.

So, the govt. should pay heed to their demands.
