The number of private universities is increasing day by day. It is true that nowadays people have confidence in private universities. First of all, private university students do not have session jams, teachers are regular, responsible in their duty.

The tuition fees are a burden for any middle class family, but there are some universities that do not have adequate facilities. There are fifty-eight universities but most of them have the appearance and space like coaching centres without a proper university campus. Not only is the campus congested but also they are not able to provide others facilities like library, lab etc.

The University Grants Commission should take the necessary steps to ensure that the private universities function smoothly.

Please refer to the report entitled "Private universities running unauthorised subjects" published in DS of 7 June 2006. The reporter has identified at least 15 of such universities but catalogued only 10. He could have listed some more.

I would request your reporter to find out these through independent probes. I would also request him to catalogue how many of the universities got their programmes evaluated and approved by the UGC.
