The wildfire in central Portugal has killed over 62 people, sending shockwaves across the world. Deforestation and dry weather, which causes immense exposure to sunlight, adds to the chances of wildfire. Similar instances have been seen in dense forest areas of Tamil Nadu, India.

These incidents remind us that failure to protect our forest areas from deforestation, excessive urbanisation and the perils of climate change will have serious repercussions in the near future.
