Questioning minorities' patriotism?
This is in response to Mr. Dev's letter (5/1/2005). In my earlier letter I urged everyone to give full support to our own team when it is playing. Alongside the minority issue, I also mentioned about the avid Pak supporters. As I mentioned in my earlier letter I do have friends in the minority group (somehow about half of my friends are from that group and here we the common people don't divide people by their religion) who are more patriotic than I. One of them recently went to a neighbouring country but he felt relieved to come back to Dhaka.
I do agree with Mr. Dev that minorities are sometimes neglected and subjected to oppression. There are problems. But things are not so grave that one should be termed "second class citizen". As for patriotism, I must admit I myself is not 100 per cent loyal to my country. I will leave this country at the first opportunity. The world is becoming more and more open. This is the age of globalisation.
