Remembering the martyrs

Our love for the martyrs starts at 12:01am and ends at 7:00pm.

I really wonder why we walk towards Shaheed Minar at 12:01am with bunches of flowers and bouquets, wearing saree and panjabi while the rest of the year we forget the martyrs. In our country respected places like Shaheed Minar are worth watching only on the special days like 21 February or 16 December. Trust me, Shaheed Minar has simply become a roaming place for vagabonds. Vagabonds, beggars couples and hawkers hang around here and there. They leave cigar packets, waste papers. Hawkers sell different things and pollute the environment. It is often seen here and there that people with sandals and shoes walking over the "bedi", while it is not permitted on 21 February.

Why? It means our love exists for only one day, not through the year.

It will be better for us if we respect the martyrs not on a certain day or occasion, but round the year from our hearts. We should give them the respect they deserve and that must not be confined to rituals only.
