For a democracy to survive, elections should be conducted in a free and fair manner. But in Bangladesh we have experienced that if an election is conducted under a partisan government, the election results go in favour of the ruling party. The only way for people to know whether the polls are conducted in a fair manner is through the media. Yet, the election commission has recently indicated that the activities of journalists may be restricted during the polls. If that really happens, there will be no one left to save our democracy.
