Safety hazards of Lalkuthi Terminal Launch

Commenced recently for the Dhaka to Chandpur commute, this project assumes that Sadarghat and Lalkuthi launch terminals are separated by less than 100 meters. However many wooden boats, each carrying 6 to 9 passengers, cross the small area every day. 

Acute rotation and whirling of the water from launch engines often endanger the small boats. A number of accidents have caused several deaths in the Buriganga river within the past few months. Many of the victims were the principal breadwinners of their families, which were left helpless after the accidents. 

While we welcome the government's undertaking of welfare projects, some of them tend to have indirect and unexpected impediments to public life. The authorities should consider such side-effects and take urgent measures to solve these problems.
