Save the lake
The Dhaka city is now experiencing a heavy burden of population. Hundreds of schools, colleges and universities are mushrooming in every corner of the city. High rise buildings in the ideal residential areas have already blocked the free passage of air and sun. Of late, the residential areas have become the market place for virtually everything. A building erected on 10 decimal of land often houses 10/15 families comprising 4 persons each. The inhabitants of these flats and houses have no place to go to for fresh air
The Dhanmondi lake which was developed for recreation is now a crowded place. People of all ages are visiting the lake right from morning to night. Of late, the authorities have allowed some shops of fast food to carry on their business. But the owners of these shops are fencing big free areas, limiting the space for the movement of the walkers and visitors. Again due to erection of the fences, the plants in and around the lake are being destroyed. Even in lake water boundaries have been earmarked for plying of boats. Not only that, some of the shop owners are using charcoal to prepare kebab . While taking my evening stroll recently , I found thick smoke coming out of the kitchen of a shop. This thick smoke is not only harming the walkers and visitors, but is also spoiling the green environment. The authorities should look into the matter.
