"Save now to buy PhD(s) later!"
Let us just browse his letter. He mentioned, "True, the political trend has immensely changed and politicians hardly spend their savings or earnings in their constituencies today as they did some 40 to 50 years ago." Then he also mentioned that he was lost to a "Rin Khelapi" in the last 2001 general election, who "swallowed 55 crores of taka from three scheduled banks." He also accepts the fact that, "It is also true that many take politics as their sole profession today and mint money as long as they can." I hope Mr Huq can find those "fortunate gentlemen [and ladies] of umpteen stories" around him, and tell us their names to keep him safer.
All the above quotations from his letter [on October 17, 2003] show that he actually agreed with the particular remark that annoyed him (from the first letter on October 13, 2003). In addition to show his earnings are legal, he mentioned about the properties he has in Tikatuly, Dhaka. Well, if Mr. Huq has "no other source of income except a few occasional business deals and the rent from a commercial building at Bangabandhu Avenue," then how could he live in Baridhara, an expensive posh residential area in the city. He should rather live in Tikatuly -- where he has got a "good portion of land along with a big pond out of 5 and half bighas" that he inherited from his famous father. He did not mention in the letter that he had any practice in the law courts for his living, menaing that he does not practice in the court. And every one understands what does it mean by a "business deal" in Bangladesh.
Anyway, we Â- the general people Â- were happy to see that at least one politician claimed [though there are lot many flaws in his claims] that he did not become rich by taking politics as profession. We expect that more politicians come up with their honest declarations and prove themselves "FIT" in front of us.
Besides, we believe Mr. Huq now also have a new moral responsibility to introduce many "fortunate gentlemen and ladies" [to the common people like us, and we are eager to know them] who became rich by taking politics as their 'sole' profession. This will in return help those "innocent people" like him who did not become rich by taking politics as their profession. This way only Mr.Huq can maintain his credibility. He can follow the example of Mr. Jalil's recent press conference to introduce the godfathers in the country!
