We are noticing with grave concern a marked change in the dress of our young religious persons. We have been told from our childhood that simplicity was a basic lesson of Islam, as such the religious leaders were found to dress in simple and mostly white cloths. Now we find that this is totally negated. The religious leaders are dressing in all conceivable fast colours and designs with matching coloured caps or head gears. Some times they appear to be the characters from some films of Alif Laila . They are found to be dazzlingly dressed with additional decorative items such as scarf, waist coat, coloured spectacles, golden watch and pens. This is not the end, their dress is additionally decorated with various motifs and patterns of tasteful designs. What is more worrying is that instead of opposing, some of the old modestly dressed religious personalities have also gone for such changes. This type of dress does not reflect the simplicity which our religion teaches.
