So near, yet so far!

I was reading an article about Budhadeb Bhattacharjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, how he is transforming the poverty stricken State into an important hub of industrial development and FDI in India. I could not resist in quoting, for information of your readers, a small extract from the article, which depicts Budhadeb Bhattacharjee, as a legendary statesman. I believe this extract will enable your readers to draw a line between our "Leaders" and the one who is so near but so far!

"Also, in a country where an honest politician is almost an oxymoron, Bhattacharjee is spotless. He is spanking clean and unbelievably honest. Moreover, Bhattacharjee maintains a Spartan lifestyle. He lives in a modest three-room 750 square feet house on Palm Avenue in South Kolkata. Till recently his wife Meena, a librarian at Engineering Consultancy, DCL used to take the public transport to work. Only after the police discovered threats to her life did he allow her to use government vehicle. These give him the moral high ground to operate from.

Nobody can even remotely suggest that his motives aren't genuine. What Bhattacharjee has going for him is that the people identify with him. He was born into a joint family, went to a middle class school and could barely complete his higher education because of financial pressure.

And today, it's the same middle class boy who is trying to change the State for the better. Who could grudge him that?"
