Whatever the political or social background may be, the issue of stranded Pakistanis (Bihari) in Bangladesh should be resolved forthwith. These people are now living in sub-human condition in various repatriation camps popularly known as Geneva Camp. Ironically, Geneva (perhaps UNHCR or ICRC) has no headache for these suffering human beings! Many of them have died with their unfulfilled dream of going to Pakistan, a country they considered as their homeland. But as ill luck would have it, Pakistan is virtually reluctant to accept these people.

It may be indicated here that the so-called Geneva camps are contributing to the generation of various problems ranging from humanitarian to felony.

In my opinion, the government of Bangladesh should offer temporary citizenship to these people and rehabilitate them in different parts of the country. Permanent citizenship may be granted to them on completion of certain provisional period.
