Strong civil society
We do have a civil society that is working, albeit with many limitations.
The civil society as advocacy or pressure group can mobilise opinion and motivate people. Over the last few years, we have noticed emergence of many such groups, few are heavily biased with partisan politics, some exist until the foreign funds last, and few have names only. Only a little number managed to carry their professed mantle. Unless this situation improves our hope as a united force to struggle against bad politics, bad governance, misrule and social reforms cannot come to fruition. A value based, ethical, progressive and united society wouldn't emerge. Towards that goal we all can play a role.
We have witnessed noisy and effective protests against illegal land fillings, gas exploration or its export etc.
Also it is to be noticed that the big and tall looking civil society couldn't do anything against our corruption and misrule, the poor illiterate peasants in Kansat showed the way.
We have also seen protests against World Bank's immunity, without noise, yet so effective, through the print media.
The emerging middle class and entrepreneurs are getting impatient with the situation and urging for a way out. A level playing ground is in high demand than ever before.
Our election, energy policy, education system, social polity, governance, social awareness etc should be in the forefront. Civil society should have a role in all sectors.
However, since politics is the main factor, all foot soldiers who mainly empower the corrupt and tyrant elements, who hoodwink their all genuine aspirations, must start thinking how to demolish that citadel, only to build it as a fortress of hope. Let's look forward to it.
