After graduating from Dhaka University in 1980 we came to the USA. All of us studied Geology and finished higher studies in Geology but the crude oil price went down to $12 per barrel. US companies stopped exploration and started importing oil from the Middle East. I moved to Wall Street and am still working there. Now the oil price is $75 per barrel but that does not help us. We all moved on and developed careers in different fields.

Time is important and timely move is very important. No commodity price is fixed. Many countries have done well without abundance of natural resources. Just looking east to ASEAN nations and comparing them with oil resource countries of the world, we can conclude that natural resources are not enough. Two hundred years ago Adam Smith predicted correctly on North America compared to mineral rich South America.

The Tata investment proposal is unique and extra ordinary. This proposal needed extra ordinary treatment. Natural resources if not utilized fully are like the money underneath the pillow. No commodity price remains static, as a result fixed gas price could have adverse impact on Tata's bottom line too. Tata knows about it. ( How about floating gas price based on London or New York spot price and a proper discount to Tata - just a thought).

Now the deal is reported to have been shelved. We are an emerging nation with great potential. The world is moving ahead and we don't want to be left behind.
