UN in lethargy
The UN day was observed yesterday, on 24 October, across the world. The UN was formed in 1945 on the ashes of World War II and the debris of the League of Nations. The UN has a significant and proactive role in global peace and stability. Paradoxically, the Big-5 is a stigma for the UN. In this 21st century, democracy is ignored to pass UN resolutions. If UN needs to perpetuate, it must be revitalised and reformed as per the necessity of present world. The UN Secretory General, presently Mr. Kofi Annan, should have maximum jurisdiction and accountability to perform his assigned duties for the welfare of the world. I hope the UN would vow on its birth anniversary to serve the world, not the countries which can veto to display their utility.
