I read with great interest the articles of Mr. Abdul Hannan and Professor Talukder Maniruzzaman published in your daily regarding the possibility of having a Bangladeshi as Secretary General of the United Nations.
Hannan and Maniruzzaman have persuasively agreed that given Bangladesh's participation in the UN activities we can make a claim for consideration of our nominee to be selected /elected as the Secretary General of the UN following the expiry of the term of Kofi Annan, the present incumbent of the top most UN post.
I feel that the nominee of Bangladesh government should be a professional diplomat on whom all the political parties of Bangladesh can agree.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. In any case if we do not contest for the post this year, we shall have to wait for long years to get a chance to nominate our candidate. Let us not miss this opportunity.
