US, Arafat and Sharon

The US strongly advocates and supports people's elected leaders. But we are stunned and shocked that on the one hand the US President George Bush is blindly supporting the people's elected Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel and is bluntly rejecting the people's elected President Yasser Arafat of Palestine on the other. The US President George Bush is meeting with Ariel Sharon several times in a year but he is refusing to meet with Yasser Arafat even for a single time. How then there can be comprehensive peace in the Middle East and how and when the US propagated roadmap for peace will be implemented?

The Israelis and the Palestinians can never live in harmony unless and until the US gives up its inclination towards Israel and its aversion towards Palestine.

Not the US but the UN should be entrusted and empowered with all duties and responsibilities to maintain law and order and restore peace in the Middle East. The US should cease, for good, poking her nose into the Israel-Palestine affairs. The US must also stop her economic and military aid to Israel pending a peaceful solution of the Palestine problem.

The UN should fix up a date for the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied areas and should Israel fail to do so, it must face an UN economic sanction like the one imposed on Iraq. If Kuwait could be freed by the US led forces why this discrimination against Palestine for over half a century?

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon must know that the universal demand for justice is 'an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth'. Everyone has to expiate his crime, his sin. The illegal occupation of Palestine and the macabre killings of Palestinians and Israelis must come to an end.
