Warnings in London
Those of you, who have visited UK, must have noticed the outrageous amount of warning messages everywhere. Warnings for drivers, pedestrians, shoppers, visitors and so on. Many of these are very useful and they prevent a lot of accidents and deaths. However, this warning business has now reached such a level that it is becoming irritating, foolish and even dangerous! Take the warning on a polythene bag, for example. It says "This is not a toy, keep away from babies and children". But babies can't read children will not heed the advice and parents already know that this is not a toy. So who is this message for? And what about those warnings on cigarette packets? How many people have you met in your whole life who have given up smoking after reading those messages? But, by far the most absurd sign I encountered was one near a flight of outdoor stairs. It warned people to take care when using those stairs. You might say this is a bright idea. Think again.
People take extra care when climbing stairs anyway. It would be quite dangerous to look at a signboard and read it while climbing the stairs. So when you put a signboard near any stairs, instead of helping people, you may well paralyse someone for life!
