World Cup euphoria
Although it was quite unusual for an H.S.C. examinee to sit before the TV at that peak hour of study, I was watching a live telecast from Germany shown on the BBC. It was a special live programme entitled 'My World Cup' where people from around the world were joining through the Internet and expressing their feelings about the World Cup. Also there were interesting features, reports and interviews regarding the sporting event. I was enjoying it in the fullest sense. I was thinking about our enthusiasm and great passion for football. Anyone while wandering around the towns and even villages of Bangladesh will be highly amazed to see a number of flags of the participating countries (mostly the flags of favourites Brazil & Argentina) on top of the houses. It is definitely an enormous reflection of our instinctive response to any grand arrangement. Perhaps this unique characteristic of enthusiastic Bangladeshis that drew the attention of world media; some videos of Bangladesh's rooftop adorned with colourful flags were shown on that live programme of BBC featuring the World Cup enthusiasm around the world. Also the report along with the videos told about people's expectation here to enjoy the World Cup without being interrupted by the frequent load-shedding.
It again proves that we love sports.
