Scientists at the Cleveland clinic in the USA consider that antioxidants like beta-carotene, vitamin C can reduce vision loss in patients with age-related macular degeneration. In that case, there is good news for our people that mangoes are full of all those antioxidants. These vitamins can protect our eyes from vision-altering free radical damage. Well, according to another American study, people losing their vision to age related macular degeneration or other degenerative illnesses may be able to get back some of their sight in the form of a tiny light-sensing silicon microchip implanted directly beneath the retina of the eye. In addition, Harvard scientists have found that antioxidant 'zeaxanthin' can protect our eyes against age-related macular degenerative diseases by absorbing blue light which is a part of sunlight. This terrible light is capable of damaging our retinas.

Lot of common people are aware these days about retina, cornea and even sometimes macula. As we know, retina receives image formed by the lens and is the immediate tool of vision. The retina along with other elements consists of rods and cones. Rods are sensitive to light of low intensity. They are also in charge for accuracy and are generally bountiful at the back of the eye known as the macula. Here the lens happens to focus its sharpest image, and this is where our vision is most excellent. But anyway, while we hang around for scientists to confirm the scientific findings, we can make the most of our daily intake of antioxidants.
