2 AL leaders among 6 killed in road accidents

At least six people including two local Awami League (AL) leaders and a police constable have been killed and 16 others injured in separate road accidents in Tangail, Natore and Cox’s Bazar districts.
Of the deceased, three -- Asaduzzaman, 27, and Sumaiya Akter, 18, of Bogra, and Habibur Rahman, 32, of Mymensingh -- were killed in Tangail while two local AL leaders -- Shakhawat Hossain Bakul and Mahbubul Alam Madhu -- killed in Natore and Constable Enamul Haq was killed in Cox’s Bazar road accidents.
In Natore, Mahbubul Alam, president of ward No. 8 of AL’s Chamari union unit and Shakhawat, former president of the AL unit, were killed when a truck rammed into a motorcycle carrying the duo on Natore-Bogra highway in Jolarbata area of the district’s Singra upazila last night, BSS reports.
The duo died on the spot when the accident took place around 9:30pm, officer-in-charge (OC) of Singra Police Station Nasir Uddin Mondol told BSS.
They were going to participate in a function at Itali union at the time of mishap, the OC said.
Police seized the truck, but its driver managed to escape the scene.
In Tangail, three people, including a woman, were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Nagar Jalpai intersection near bypass in Sadar upazila last night, reports UNB.
A Dhaka-bound potato-laden truck from Bogra collided with the Bogra-bound bus coming from opposite direction around 8:00pm that left three people dead on the spot 10 people injured, Shah Alam, in-charge of Elenga Highway police camp, told UNB.
The injured were taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital.
In Cox’s Bazar, constable Enamul was killed and six were injured as a bus hit a microbus in Chakaria upazila of the district this morning.
The deceased was a constable of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, our local correspondent reports quoting Abul Hashem, in-charge of Ciringah Highway Police outpost.
The accident took place when a bus rammed a microbus in front of Inani Resort on Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway around 8:00am, leaving Enamul dead and six passengers of the microbus injured.
The injured were rushed to local hospitals.
