Anti-militant committees to be apolitical: Syed Ashraf

Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam says that the anti-militant and terrorism grassroots committees are being formed by the local administration across the country will be apolitical.

Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam today said that the anti-militant and terrorism grassroots committees, formed by the local administration across the country, will be apolitical.     

“All the elected public representatives of the local government bodies irrespective of political identities will be a member of the committee,” Ashraf, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, said after the annual conference of deputy commissioners in the secretariat.

When asked about BNP-Jamaat’s representation in the committee, he said they also can be members of the grassroots committees. “They will be. Of course they will be included.”

However, he said no decision has yet been taken regarding the inclusion of BNP-Jamaat men in the national committee to be formed in this regard.
