BNP’s income rises 3 folds

The annual income of BNP has increased three times last year compared to that of 2013, according to an audit report.
In the audit report submitted to the Election Commission by a four-member BNP delegation today, the party said its expenditure has also increased by Tk 1.26 crore.
In 2013, the party’s annual income was only around Tk 76 lakh which has increased to Tk 2.87 crore in 2014. On the other hand, the party’s expenditure has increased to Tk 3.53 crore in 2014 from Tk 2.27 crore in 2013, the audit report says.
The deficit of over Tk 65 lakh was met up by the party’s savings in banks, AKM Aminul Haque, a member of the delegation, told reporters after submitting the report to EC Secretary Sirajul Islam.
The report mentioned donations, monthly subscription fees of the party’s leaders and activists and selling of party membership forms as the main sources of income. On the other hand, salaries of the party staffs, Iftar Mahfils, and arranging different programmes were mentioned as the party’s major expenditure areas, Aminul said.
The BNP submitted the audit report following a one and half month extension of the deadline.
As per the Political Parties Registration Rule 2008, all registered political parties have to submit their annual audit reports, certified by a listed chartered accountant firm, within July 31 of the following year.
Meanwhile, ruling Awami League is yet to submit its audit report of 2014 as the EC has extended the deadline up to August 31.
