Police foil BNP’s demonstration demanding immediate release of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Dhaka.

Police foiled BNP’s demonstration demanding immediate release of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Dhaka today.

A number of leaders and activists of BNP (Dhaka south) gathered in front of Baitul Mokkarram around 1:50 pm to bring out a procession to press home their demand.

As they were marching towards Dainik Bangla area, the law enforcers dispersed them.

At that time, BNP men hurled brickbats at the policemen and vandalised a police vehicle, Anwar Hossain, deputy commissioner (Motijheel Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star.

The BNP men were holding the programme without taking permission from the authorities concerned, he said adding, “So, we had to disperse them for ensuring public security."

The law enforcers detained some BNP men from the spot, the DC said.
