GCC polls: 'Prep underway, no risk during polls’

There is no risk during Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections as a large number of law enforcers have been deployed, says the Returning Officer Rakib Uddin Mondol.

There is no risk during Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections as a large number of law enforcers have been deployed, said the Returning Officer Rakib Uddin Mondol.

“Polling officials, civilians and other officials of our departments will also be working. So we do not think there is any risk at all. The election will be held in a free and fair manner,” the returning officer said at his office today.

All materials for holding the elections are ready, the Returning Officer Rakib Uddin Mondol said.

Meanwhile, preparations for the GCC polls are going on in full-swing as ballot boxes have been sent out to all polling centres today.

The ballot boxes and all other materials were being sent out to the 425 polling centres from 12:00pm, the EC official said.

“We believe the election will be free and fair. There are about 18.5 lakh voters, of them, 50 per cent are female voters. To ensure everyone can cast their votes, we have notified all officials and also publicised adequately,” Mondol said in a message to the voters.
