Retd Maj Gen AMSA Amin announces new political party
Retired Major General AMSA Amin today announced a new political party called "Noitik Samaj".
While announcing formation of his new political party through a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club, Amin said this political party was started with the objective of creating principled leadership and moral values in politics.
Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain spoke virtually at the press conference as chief guest.
Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, professor of law department at the Dhaka University Asif Nazrul, among others also spoke at the programme.
Several top leaders of the newly announced party who were present at the briefing were retired army personnel.
AMSA Amin is a politician from Kurigram district and a former ambassador.
He retired from the army and joined the Awami League in 2001. In 2003, he was elected president of the Kurigram district committee of the Awami League. He was defeated in the 8th parliamentary elections of 2001 by contesting from Kurigram-2 constituency with the nomination of Awami League.
After that he joined Gonoforum in 2018.
He also lost in the 2018 national election while contesting from Kurigram-2 constituency under the banner of Jatiya Oikya Jote.
Dr Kamal Hossain is the chairman of Jatiya Oikya Jote.
Amin is also the chairman of Center for Security and Development Studies, a non-governmental organisation.
Pointing to the reasons behind a new political party, AMSA Amin said, there are many political parties in the country. But most of them are part of creating problems in the country.
"In the last 50 years, they couldn't become part of resolving the problem as anarchic situation prevails everywhere in the country at present."
He also said big political parties have failed to bring honest, meritorious, quality people in politics.
"Today, democracy, election, human rights is at stake in the country. We will have to establish morality in politics comprising of honest and quality leadership. To meet this necessity, Noitik Samaj (Moral Society) has been established," he added.
Welcoming the new party, Dr Kamal Hossain said people respect honest people. We have to teach the new generation to feel morality.
"Morality and honesty must be nurtured. Wicked people cannot and will not lead us forever," said Dr Kamal, a noted jurist of the country.
Dr Kamal also said everyone must be united against injustice.
Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said that in every case morality has died.
He also said minorities are being persecuted one after another.
He also criticised the recent killing of Hefajat men in different parts of the country.
Zafrullah also wished success of the newly announced party.
