45 Rohingya fleeing Bhasan Char detained in Ctg

"Acting on a tip-off, police detained 45 Rohingya people inside a closed ship-breaking yard. Among them, 14 are men, 11 women, and 20 children."

Police today detained 45 Rohingya individuals, including women and children, who had fled Bhasan Char by boat at a shipbreaking yard in Bhatiyari under Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram.

Confirming the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (DB) of Chattogram Md Rasel told The Daily Star, "Acting on a tip-off, police detained 45 Rohingya people inside a closed ship-breaking yard. Among them, 14 are men, 11 women, and 20 children.

"During primary interrogation, they said they fled Bhasan Char using engine boats [trawlers] and were later dropped off at the Sitakunda coast, claiming they arrived in Cox's Bazar."

"Police are now sending them back to Bhasan Char by bus," he added.
