"Acting on a tip-off, police detained 45 Rohingya people inside a closed ship-breaking yard. Among them, 14 are men, 11 women, and 20 children."
Police today detained 45 Rohingya individuals, including women and children, who had fled Bhasan Char by boat at a shipbreaking yard in Bhatiyari under Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram.
Confirming the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police (DB) of Chattogram Md Rasel told The Daily Star, "Acting on a tip-off, police detained 45 Rohingya people inside a closed ship-breaking yard. Among them, 14 are men, 11 women, and 20 children.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. "During primary interrogation, they said they fled Bhasan Char using engine boats [trawlers] and were later dropped off at the Sitakunda coast, claiming they arrived in Cox's Bazar."
"Police are now sending them back to Bhasan Char by bus," he added.
