“Lawyers are social engineers to bring about positive changes in the world,” said Speaker of the Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP as the chief guest at the inaugural program of the 6th Bangladesh Qualifying Round of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition hosted by Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on February 17.

"Lawyers are social engineers to bring about positive changes in the world," said Speaker of the Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP as the chief guest at the inaugural program of the 6th Bangladesh Qualifying Round of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition hosted by Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on February 17.

"To make a difference in the lives of the people and to serve humanity, lawyers must prepare themselves with adequate knowledge and understanding of international law."

The program was chaired by IUB VC Tanweer Hasan, PhD. He said that in the wake of the 4th Industrial Revolution, we need global citizens who would be sensitive to the rights of others and who would strive to resolve any dispute or difference through resolution mechanisms.         

Chargé d' affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Bangladesh Helen LaFave, advisor and head of law Prof. Borhan Uddin Khan, national administrator for the Bangladesh qualifying round of the competition Washik Muhammad Istiaq Ezaz, founding national administrator of the competition Nuran Choudhury, Supreme Court advocate barrister A B M Hamidul Mishbah, liberal arts and social sciences dean Prof. Taiabur Rahman, PhD, and the last ED of International Law Students Association Lesley Benn also spoke at the event.
