In fond remembrance
It has been headline news for some time that celebrated actress Parveen Sultana, more commonly referred to as Diti, is no more amongst us. Gracing the screens, big and small, since the early 80's, her multi-talented persona was quick to win the hearts of the fans, and she continued to successfully hold that place until her last day.
Born to Abul Hossain and Nurjahan Begum in Sonargaon of the Narayanganj District, she won an award at the national competition by the Bangladesh Shishu Academy in her early years for her talent in singing. She progressed to appearing in TV dramas on Bangladesh Television later on before moving to the silver screen. She won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1987 for her performance in "Shami Stri".
She was a personality loved by all in the industry, and she would have turned 51 last week had she still been among us. Her versatility and optimistic spirit was a gem for the industry and her loss is equally traumatising for her fans, colleagues and well-wishers. Star Showbiz fondly remembers Diti and her contributions to the industry and as the Roman philosopher Cicero said, "The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living," and surely she continues to live in our memories.
