Malcolm In The Middle (2000 - 2006)
Malcolm in the Middle is an American sitcom by Linwood Boomer that ran from January 9, 2000 to May 14, 2006. The series had a total of seven seasons and 151 episodes.
The series revolves around Malcolm, a young genius boy and his dysfunctional family of five that includes Hal, his immature but caring father; Lois, his overprotective and authoritarian mother; his eldest brother Francis, a former rebel; his silly older brother Reese; and his musically gifted younger brother Dewey. The show took place in the fictional Tri-County Area and focused on Malcom's dealings with the struggle of being a child and facing the bizarreness that comes along with it. The subsequent seasons spread its focus on exploring other friends and family members of Malcolm.
What made the series stand out was Malcolm's continuous breaking of the fourth wall by talking directly to the viewers. The show did not include a live studio audience or a laugh track making the show very unique. All scenes in the series were shot using a single-camera setup and in lieu of audience laughter, the show contained mood setting music throughout sequences. Another unique aspect the show possessed was the teaser it provided in each episode that was unrelated to the main story.
The series was critically acclaimed and won various awards that include a Peabody Award, one Grammy Award and seven Emmy Awards. It also received a total of seven Golden Globe nominations throughout its runtime.
With its immense popularity, the show had an adaptation made by a Russian channel called STS naming the series “Super Max” which had a total of one season so far.
