Al-Amin annihilates Gazi Group

Victoria Sporting Club ensured their progress to the super league as the table topper of Dhaka Premier League 2016 after they vanquished Gazi Group by 28 runs at Fatullah today.

Victoria skipper won the toss and opted to bat first. His side rode on opener Abdul Mazid’s second ton in the ongoing DPL to post 219 for 7 in 33 overs after the match was delayed due to morning showers. The 2nd wicket stand of 122 runs was the bedrock of Victoria’s total.

Mazid made 100 from 92 balls with eight fours and two sixes to his name. In his previous match, he struck 118 against Brothers. Mominul Haque contributed to Victoria’s total with 73 runs.

Mohammad Sharif of Gazi Group was the best bowler for his side with three wickets for 19 runs in three overs. Delwar Hossain took two while Shamsur Rahman picked up a wicket today.

The target of 220 runs from 33 overs proved to be too tall for Gazi Group. The 3 rd wicket partnership of 95 after two early blows steadied Gazi’s innings, but they lost wickets at crucial phases to come up short in the end. Punnet Bisht scored 86 from 72 with 12 hits to the fence to keep Gazi in the game.

However, Al-Amin of Victoria wrecked Gazi’s middle order with five wickets for 27 runs in four overs, his best bowling figures in DPL 2016. Mahbub Alam captured three wickets to deny Gazi Group. After the fall of Bisht, Gazi were totally out of contention and finally capitulated in 30.1 overs for 191 runs.

Al-Amin became the player of the match for his outstanding effort at Fatullah.
