Pakistan likely to play 2023 ICC World Cup matches in Bangladesh
According to an ESPNCricinfo report, the Pakistan Cricket Board is exploring probable options to play their 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup matches at a neutral venue, with Bangladesh being discussed as a viable candidate.
India will host the marquee event but since the BCCI, due to souring political ties between the countries, has already affirmed their position of not making the trip across the border for the upcoming Asia Cup in Pakistan, the PCB as a consequence has stood firm saying they would not play their World Cup matches in India.
ESPNCricinfo reported that the idea of Bangladesh hosting Paskistan's matches was discussed informally between members in board meetings last week and no formal proceedings have been made.
The Asian Cricket Council reportedly agreed in principle to have Pakistan as hosts of the upcoming Asia Cup with the condition that India's matches are facilitated at neutral venues. If the tournament is played out using this hybrid model, it could also be used in the World Cup, in which case, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, or the UAE could end up hosting Pakistan's World Cup matches.
The World Cup commences on October 5, while the Asia Cup, which will act as preparation for the Asian sides, will begin on September 12.
