Rangpur Division clinched the title of the U-16 Divisional Football Competition after beating Khulna Division 4-3 in the penalty shootout at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.

The match rolled into the tiebreaker after the regulation time produced a 1-1 draw.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has arranged this championship for the boys, who had earlier been given training in two phases under the talent hunt programme of the National Sports Council, who allotted over Tk 1 crore to complete the programme.

To gauge the standard of the players and the impact of the training, the BFF development committee has arranged the championship with the participation of eight divisions after BFF coaches selected a total of 160 players for eight divisional teams. The game's governing body will now select the preliminary squad of the U-16 boys' team who are supposed to take part in the SAFF U-16 Championship and AFC U-16 Championship Qualifiers this year.
