Azmi improves timing but exits from semis

Azmi Khatun, a BKSP student, was eliminated from the semifinals of the women's 100m sprint in the Youth Commonwealth Games at Hasely and Crawford Stadium in Trinidad on Tuesday.

Azmi Khatun, a BKSP student, was eliminated from the semifinals of the women's 100m sprint in the Youth Commonwealth Games at Hasely and Crawford Stadium in Trinidad on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old sprinter, however, improved her timing to what she had achieved in the heat-2 to qualify for the semifinals. She clocked 13.09 seconds to finish 16th among 24 athletes in the semifinal.  

Earlier, Azmi clocked 13.32 seconds in the heat-2 to finish third among six athletes and qualified for the semifinals. 

Azmi, however, was far from the eighth and final athlete who qualified for the final. Odiase of Canada came eighth and made it to the final with a timing of 11.97 seconds while J Eyakpobeyan of Nigeria topped with a timing of 11.35 seconds in the semifinal.

Azmi is scheduled to take part in the 200m sprint tomorrow.
