Bangladesh finish seventh

The Bangladesh chess team finished seventh in the Asian Nations Chess Cup after suffering a straight 4-0 defeat to Iran in the ninth and final round held at Novotel Abu Dhabi Al Bustan Hotel in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

The Bangladesh chess team finished seventh in the Asian Nations Chess Cup after suffering a straight 4-0 defeat to Iran in the ninth and final round held at Novotel Abu Dhabi Al Bustan Hotel in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

The defeat to Iran meant Bangladesh slipped from fourth to seventh place with 10 points. Bangladesh notched up five victories out of nine matches against Jordan, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka and Palestine but conceded defeats against Iran, Kazakhstan, China and eventual champions India.

In the final round, GM Niaz Murshed, GM Abdullah Al Rakib, GM Enamul Hossain and IM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagor lost to GM Pouria Dariai, Ali Reza Firouzja, Masoud Mosadeghpour and Parham Maghsoodle respectively.
