Amid huge enthusiasm, entertaining display were aplenty during the annual sports festival as a march-past and different kinds of competitions took place before chief guest Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, former Bangladesh cricket captain, and company distributed prizes among the winners.
The speakers in the programme -- opening with the welcome speech of principal Nasrin Begum and presided over by Arif Hossain Choton, school's governing body president and Ward 43 councillor of the Dhaka South City Corporation -- talked about the illustrious journey of Brojen Das -- a celebrated alumni of the school, founded in 1866.
Hailing from the Kuchiamora village of Bikrampur, Munshiganj, Brojen was the first Asian to swim across the English Channel. He was also the first person to cross it four times and in 1961, the then 34-year-old Brojen went on to establish a world record for the fastest swim across the English Channel.
