Former Bangladesh Table Tennis player and former Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF) general secretary Shamsul Alam passed away at his own residence at 5:30 am on Saturday. He was 79.

Shamsul, who acted as general secretary of South Asian Table Tennis Federation twice and was also a member of the existing Executive Committee of BTTF, contracted coronavirus about a month or two ago. After recovering from Covid-19, he then suffered a brain stroke and was admitted to a hospital in the capital for about three weeks.

His family found him unconscious in his own room at home this morning. Shamsul's family and well-wishers in the sports fraternity believe he died of a heart attack.

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) expressed their condolences at the passing away of Shamsul.

His namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to be held after Zuhr prayers at Baitun Nur Jam E Mosjid in Uttara today.
