Korea win 5th title, Bangladesh finish 6th
South Korea became champions of Asia Cup Hockey for the fifth time after beating Malaysia 2-1 in the final in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday.
The Koreans took the lead in the 17th minute but Malaysia, who have never won the continental title, equalised eight minutes later. However, Korea regained the lead in the 52nd minute and held on to that slender lead for the rest of the time to win the title for the fifth time.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh team completed their campaign with an 8-0 defeat against Pakistan to finish sixth among eight participating teams in Jakarta, Indonesia today.
The men in red and green, who lost to the same opposition by 6-2 goals in Asian Champions Trophy in 2021 in Dhaka, retained the sixth position which they had achieved in the 2017 Asia Cup held in Dhaka.
The charges of Iman Gobinathan Krishnamurthy conceded the first goal in the 11th minute, second in the 16th, third in the 32nd minute before conceding five more goals towards the end. The first three goals came from penalty corners while the last five were field goals.
Bangladesh played a total of five matches in the Asia Cup, winning against Oman and Indonesia while losing against South Korea, Malaysia and Pakistan. The men in red and green conceded 25 goals and scored eight.
