Hockey returned to the blue turf after a seven-month gap as Bangladesh Navy trounced BKSP 8-2 in the opening match of the Paragon Group Victory Day Hockey competition at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Monday.

Penalty-corner specialist Ashraful Islam scored five goals while skipper Rasel Mahmud Jimmy, Fazle Hossain Rabby and Mahbub Hossain scored one apiece for Navy.

The Navy team, comprising nine players of the national team, overpowered the students of BKSP and turned it into almost a one-way traffic.

Tanvir Rahman Siam and Hujaifa Hussain scored a goal each for BKSP.

Earlier, secretary of Youth and Sports Rejaul Maksud Jahedy inaugurated the tournament where Lt. Col (retd) Riazul Hasan, the general secretary of Bangladesh Hockey Federation, was present as the chief guest.
