Rubel exits quarters after tiebreaker

Archer Hakim Ahmed Rubel narrowly missed an opportunity to move into the semifinals of the Men’s Recurve Individual event in the Archery Asia Cup Stage-III in Singapore, suffering a defeat in tiebreakers to eventual finalist Salunkhe Parth Sushant from India today.

The quarterfinal rolled into a one-shot tiebreaker after the match ended with each player on five set points. Rubel took the lead twice by winning the first and third sets, but Sushant bounced back by winning 29-27 in the fourth set to level proceedings.

The decisive fifth and final set ended in a 27-27 draw, forcing the quarterfinal into a tiebreaker, in which Sushant hit the bullseye to secure 10 out of 10 while Rubel could only manage nine and faced elimination.

Diya Siddique exited from the pre-quarterfinals in the women's Recurve Individual event after losing 4-6 to third seed An Qixuan of China. Diya had beaten Uzbekistan's Abdusattorova Ziyodakhan 6-4 to move into the pre-quarterfinals.

Like Diya, Sagor Islam also suffered a loss in the pre-quarterfinals with a 1-7 defeat to ninth seeded Yi-chong Chang of Chinese Taipei.
