Spikers end Asian C’ship campaign with maiden win
Bangladesh national volleyball team finally tasted victory in the Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship by handing a 3-1 defeat to Hong Kong in their place-deciding match in Urmia, Iran, on Friday.
The charges of Alipour Aroji came into the match on the back of three defeats against South Korea, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
Against Hong Kong, the match turned out to be a closely contested affair. Each of the four sets were nail-biters as scores read 25-22, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-19 in Bangladesh's favour.
The win helped Bangladesh finish 15th among 17 participants in the competition's 22nd edition. The tournament was originally set to feature a total of 18 participating teams, but Mongolia withdrew at the last minute.
Bangladesh had previously participated in Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship twice in 1989 and 1993 but they lost all eight matches they played in those two editions.
