DSCC’s initiative to engage city’s youths in sports

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken a different initiative to engage the inhabitants of its 75 wards in sports particular focus on bringing back the popularity of football, raising the image of cricket and encourage the younger generation to get involved in sports without spending time behind electronic devices.
Under the initiative, the DSCC is all set to introduce a tournament titled 'Inter-Ward Sports Competition 2021' with two major disciplines -- football and cricket -- taking place in different venues across South City Corporation.
Some 63 Wards will be competing in the football tournament which will be inaugurated on Feb 10 at Bangabandhu National Stadium with the final slated for March 15. Grounds like Brothers Union ground, Dhaka University Gymnasium ground, Basabo Alauddin ground, Govt. Laboratory School ground, Matuail ground, Fazle Rabbi Hall ground, Motijheel Boys School ground will host matches of the tournament.
The opening and final cricket matches will be held at Paltan ground on Feb 16 and March 15 respectively. 64 wards are set to take part in the cricket tournament. The rest of matches will be held at the Dhupkhola ground, Dhaka University ground, Basabo Alauddin ground, Basabo Balur math and Karim Jute Mills ground.
The champions and runners-up of football and cricket event will be awarded Tk 5 and Tk 3 lakh each as was disclosed at the press conference at the Mayor Hanif Auditorium of DSCC in the presence of Mayor Falze Noor Tapash, BFF president Kazi Salahuddin and representatives of sponsors Modhumati Bank and Orion Group.
