Fastest man and woman frustrate
Bangladesh's fastest man Mezbah Ahmed and woman Shirin Akter frustrated in their respective 100m sprint events at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games yesterday as neither managed to maintain their previous timings from the National Athletics Championships in Dhaka last year.
Mezbah finished 53rd among 65 sprinters by clocking in 10.96 seconds while Shirin took 12.72 seconds to place 38th among 41 sprinters.
During the National Athletics Championships in December, Mezbah clocked 10.78 seconds to maintain his status as the country's fastest man for the seventh year running while Shirin clocked 12.29 seconds to clinch the title for the sixth time.
Mezbah's career best time is 10.72 seconds while Shirin's is 11.99 seconds, both of which were produced at the South Asian Games in Assam in 2016.
